1105 Government Information Group Announces Key Personnel Hires: New Editors and Publisher Named
FALLS CHURCH, VA (December 15, 2010) — 1105 Government Information Group, the largest business-to-business publisher in the government technology market, announced key personnel hires and promotions this week, including two new editors and a new publisher.
Paul McCloskey, an award-winning editor with more than 30 years of experience, returns to 1105 as the new Editor in Chief of GCN. Most recently the editor of Government Health IT, McCloskey has also edited Federal Computer Week and civic.com. In addition, McCloskey was a member of the launch team for Federal Computer Week in 1987.
John Stein Monroe, a former editor in chief of Federal Computer Week and now its community content editor, returns as its editor. Also an award winning journalist, Monroe has spent more than 15 years at 1105 and its previous organizations, 101 Communications and IDG. He has also edited civic.com and Government Health IT.
“We are extremely fortunate to have on the team such seasoned publishing professionals who understand the government technology market,” said Anne A. Armstrong, President and Editor in Chief of 1105 Government Information Group. “Paul and John have a deep knowledge of both current technology issues and the context of acquisition challenges facing federal, state and local executives.”
"There’s never been a time when the public sector has faced more change or had more powerful technology available to carry out its mission. I’m excited—and fortunate—to be joining GCN to help tell this story at a time when such important transformation is taking place," said McCloskey.
Veteran media executive Larry Fishbein assumes the position of publisher of Federal Computer Week and Government Computer News. His role will focus on driving growth in the two brands’ robust portfolios of print publications, websites, e-newsletters, web seminars, custom media and research.
“We believe Larry’s energy and diverse multi-platform experience will help grow the opportunities for advertisers to reach the large and influential audience that Federal Computer Week and Government Computer News deliver,” said Jennifer Weiss, Vice President and Group Publisher at 1105 Government Information Group. “Larry understands the challenges that marketers face and the critical role our organization can play in addressing these needs.”
Prior to joining 1105 Government Information Group, Fishbein served as president and publisher of Washington Jewish Week, overseeing all aspects of the weekly newspaper. His diverse background includes a decade at The Kiplingers Washington Editors as director of marketing and business development and time at Psychology Today as associate publisher.
“To be a part of these two leading brands is a true honor. It’s a very exciting opportunity to be able to offer clients tailored solutions online along with custom content, research and print”, said Fishbein.
